4月5日，Lionsgate電影公司將以下聲明寄給「飢餓遊戲」各粉絲網站，導演、作者，以及製作人針對比德與蓋爾人選出爐皆有所表示：

「看書時，我認為比德會是最難徵選的角色，而我覺得非常幸運，我們找到一位各方面都能體現出這個複雜角色的人。我等不及要與喬許一同工作了。」
