Having studied the history between Troy and Greece in the World Literature calss,I became interested in the moive--Troy,mainly acted by Brad Pitt(Achilles),Eric Bana(Hector),Orlando Bloom(Paris),and Diane Kruger(Helen).
The movie was well known when I was a third grade senior high school student. Not being too much interest in it,I was studying hard for the important extrance exam.
Who knows in the end I will want to see it? The lesson stirred my curiosity to see the movie. I wanted to know how the movie perform this complicated history:The fall of Troy.
In the epic Iliad, writted by great Homer, the Greeks is a honor-loving people, and they always fight for honor.
However,in the movie Troy, the importance of honor is faded and not so important as in Iliad. Catering to the favor of the audience,it was adapted and people became fighting for love--only LOVE....
I thought it was very strange for I knew the truth of the war. Maybe it was part of the reasons why I thought it so strange.
In the movie, the story went too fast, and it didn't explain the honor question. It is extremely filled with heroism, and it emphasizes love.
It even made Achilles, who was originally dead before the fall of Troy, survive to fight the Trojans by the wooden horse. It was tremendously strange! He survived so as to find Briseis back.
I don't know how to describe that. But,in Iliad,Briseis was nobody but just the proof of Achilles' honor.
The movie adapted and ignored too many vital chapters. For instance,as Hector stood before the gate and fought against Achilles, his father,Priam, and his mother,Hecuba, would ask him back and cry loudly, but the movie overlooked it.
There are too many examples to take.
Maybe it was because that if the movie showed all of the important chapters,it would never come to the end and the audience would fall asleep. Anyway,I couldn't accept it for I had realized the truth before.
If I don't comprehend the truth,I would think it's a good movie and their love is very wonderful. But,I know the truth;as a consequence,I consider the movie a little bit pretended!

Overlooking the story of the movie,I have to say:I still got something from it.
I have a different concept at Hector, some sides of whom I have forgot accidentally.
Hector was really a good son,a good husband, and a good father.
At the beginnig of the movie,I saw Hector carved a small stone lion and felt confused. Later,I knew the reason--he carved it to send his cute son as a toy. I could feel his love for his young son immediately.
He didn't want to fight, but he had to--due to his foolish younger brother,Paris, and his honor.
Before fighting against Achilles,he told his wife a way to survive.Even his wife stopped him to say for she wasn't willing to think he might die,he still insisted on talking, because he was afraid that his wife, his son,and the Trojans might all die eventually.
Different from his brother,Paris,a real coward,he didn't dodge the coming of death. According,he was dead with honor.

It's a profound story. I can learn too many things from it and have the concept to consider things from different side.
I can't view Hector as a purely good man, because he had killed countless people and let countless family broke before.
I can't view helen as a cause of the war owing to her beauty, because she couldn't control the longing of the men for power and honor.
The cause of the war was enormously complicated. It was made up of the longing of innumberable people and some gods and goddesses.
Anyway, from the great epic,Iliad,I understand that I have to explore things from many different sides.
