→This is the "cover" of Amei's musical "愛上卡門"(In Love with Carmen).


→卡門(Carmen) and 何曦(Jose) with je ne sais quoi.

Amei performed this musical in Taiwan on December 23th and 24th,2006.
It was too bad that there were only two days.
Since my cousin told me Amei was going to perform the FIRST Taiwanese(means 台灣的,not 台語) musical,I had been hesitant about watching this musical.
I had run short of money because I spent 1,500 NT dollars on Dutch cast musical"De Drei Musketiers" DVD.(I will introduce this wonderful musical later.);nonetheless,I still determined to watch Amei's musical since it was the first Taiwanese musical.
As a Taiwanese and a musical aficionado,it was indispensable for me to watch our own first musical. Besides this,I believed in Amei's talent.
I actually watched the FIRST performation since my cousin and I bought the tickets on December 23th.

To tell the truth,each time I go to 小巨蛋,I must have terrible feeling,and this time is not excepted.
The performation time was 7:30 p.m.;however,after the time,there still were countless people who were LATE came in.
I desired to KICK them out of my eyesight!
Why can't Taiwanese people become as punctual as foreigners?
If we'd like to become a cosmopolitan country,we have to remove such a bad habit!
(But everybody knows "Bad habits die hard"....)

Anyhow,let's talk something about this musical.
It's too bad that "In Love with Carmen" has no in toto original music.
Only four of the songs are newly created;the rest are almost well-known songs in Taiwan,some are performed in original way and some are adapted.

The story of "In Love with Carmen" is similar to French musical "Notre Dame de Paris".
It is probably that the original novel is similar to "Notre Dame de Paris".

→deadly but spellbound rose--卡門Carmen

→Phoebusesque Casanova--何曦Jose

卡門,like Esmeralda,is an alien with deadly but alluring beauty.
She goes to a town to find a job. Due to her lure,she catches countless men's attention.
何曦 is an upright policeman who has a fiancée named 梅凱莉.
However,the minute seeing 卡門,he is entirely seduced by 卡門's sexy but dangerous beauty.
Like Phoebus who has fiancée Fleur-de-Lys,何曦,who has fiancée 梅凱莉,can help but fall in love with 卡門 at the first sight,or rather their fall in love with each other.
There is a serious conflict between 卡門 and 梅凱莉;out of self-protection,卡門 hurts 梅凱莉 and thus she is arrested by the policeman 何曦.
However,何曦 decides to let go of her regardless of his duty. Unfortinately,the police think 何曦 favors his fiancée and thus arrests 卡門;何曦 is axed.
Later,卡門 thinks she and 何曦 live in different worlds,so she chooses to stay with the friends who are the same as her and promises to steal things.
Since 何曦 is an upstanding man,he tries to prevent 卡門 from becoming a thief but fails.
At the same time,梅凱莉 tells 何曦 that his mother is gravely sick and urges him to go home.
卡門 pretends that she doesn't need 何曦 anymore and pushes him away.
After 何曦 comes back,卡門 has already promised to marry 張董.
何曦 begs 卡門 not to marry the man whom she doesn't love and who doesn't love her;nevertheless,卡門 insists on her decision.
Maybe out of reluctance,何曦 unexpectedly kills 卡門 by himself!
Holding 卡門 in arms,何曦 brings her into the church,where primarily is the place of 卡門's wedding.
何曦 walks out of the door with lamentable expression on his face;the countenance seems to express that he doesn't want to but can't help but kill his l'amant.
Only kill her can he stay with her for good.

→何曦 holds Carmen who he kills in person. Don't you think the scene is the same as German musical "Elisabeth"?
(Do you know why I especially describe 何曦's countenance? It's because I'm deeply attracted and moved by 何曦's grieved appearance.)
Finally,卡門 becomes an angel and get her freedom.

Actually,Amei seems to be the only principal.
Ado is not like a principal but just an actor since he doesn't sing too many songs.
It's too bad that 何曦 is powerless in the musical "In Love with Carmen"!
In any case,I hope that the itinerant performance of our Taiwanese first musical "In Love with Carmen" can not only perform in Asian areas but European and American areas.
French musical such as "Romeo et Juliette" and "Notre Dame de Paris" can perform in Asia,so why can't we urge our own musical to perform in other continents?
Sincerely hope that "In Love with Musical" can become an illustrious musical!
